The Monash Freeway Project Upgrade commenced in September 2016 and was recently finished this month (November 2022).
The project scope was segmented into two works stages, and Civiltest was involved in the second stage.
Stage 1 deliverables: add 30km of extra traffic lanes to the Monash Freeway.
Its completion was in June 2018, and now, the freeway exists as 4-5 lanes in each direction between EastLink interchange and the South Gippsland Freeway. Plus, 2-3 lanes in each direction between South Gippsland Freeway and Clyde Road in Berwick.
Stage 2 deliverables: add 36km of new lanes on the Monash and Princes Freeways and multiple outbound ramps to the EastLink interchange.
Civiltest were engaged by principal contractor CPB to provide quality assurance materials testing throughout the construction of the upgraded new lanes and roadways. Civiltest provided testing on all of the works between Jacksons Road outbound entry ramp and the City end of the project. Civiltest also provided testing on the works between the Berwick and Beaconsfield areas and the new O'Shae Road.
"Based on our years of experience and compliance with Major Roads Project Victoria (MRPV), Civiltest was chosen to provide quality compliance testing of various earthworks and pavement materials. We also provided testing to confirm engineering specification compliance as pavement construction was undertaken," Grant Gibbs, Civiltest's CEO, said.
Due to the project's dynamic nature and time dependency, it required a highly flexible, responsive testing team to meet the client's expectations and timelines.
"Being available at short notice to meet the high frequency of testing on such a large project was challenging," Grant said. "Yet, we were confident in our team's abilities—and we were able to deliver the test results efficiently."
As with any project's completion, Civiltest celebrates the team's achievement and standard of excellence delivered.
"We work very hard to ensure the testing Civiltest produces can be relied upon to provide tangible benefits for the broader community. Whether it be Government funded work or private industry, we're proud to be involved," Grant said.
