Ensuring Excellence: Training Standards at CivilTest
CivilTest places an unwavering emphasis on upholding the highest standards of competence and proficiency within its operations.
Joe Fuller, the Training Systems Manager at CivilTest, notes, "We hold NATA accreditation and operate under ISO 17025, which is the general requirement for the competence of a testing laboratory."
Previously coming from an industry that often overlooked training and staff development, Joe expresses his appreciation for CivilTest's commitment to training, stating, "It's refreshing to see the premium that CivilTest places on internal training." He underscores the positive impact on staff quality and attitude, with many advancing into managerial positions and a notably low company turnover.
At the heart of CivilTest's internal training system lies a comprehensive approach designed to evaluate and enhance the capabilities of its testers.
"Our system incorporates test method assessments, competency levels, internal training videos and test method calculation worksheets that cater for technicians of all abilities and experience,” said Joe.
"Training across that range of experience means you have to be fairly adaptable to situations and the needs of the trainee, which keeps my job interesting."
This tiered approach to competency is a cornerstone of its training framework, ensuring rigorous standards that foster individual growth and guarantee excellence in testing procedures.
The latter includes external training opportunities, certifications at levels 3 and 4, and Diplomas in laboratory skills and techniques, enriching the staff's skillsets.
"We place importance on staff demonstrating competency in independent testing and achieving proficiency levels to qualify as authorised signatories on behalf of CivilTest," said Joe.
"It's rewarding to witness staff taking ownership of their training and knowledge in construction materials testing, especially once they recognise their vital role within the industry."
CivilTest's training protocol is adaptable to regional variations, ensuring strict compliance with specific test methods and codes of practice relevant to each state, demonstrating the company's dedication to precision and accuracy across diverse regulatory landscapes, Australia wide.
